Thesis: Introduction The focus of my thesis is the development and implementation of structure prediction methods (MembStruk) for a class of integral membrane proteins called the G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). MembStruk involves several steps that are detailed and tested in the first couple chapters of this thesis.

The 41 amino acid neuropeptide, corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) and its associated receptors CRF1-R and CRF2-R have been targeted for treating stress related disorders. Both CRF1-R and CRF2-R belong to the class B G-protein coupled receptors for which little information is known regarding the small molecule antagonist binding characteristics.Read More
DNA-based two-dimensional and three-dimensional arrays have been used as templates for the synthesis of functional polymers and proteins. Hydrophobic or amphiphilic DNA arrays would be useful for the synthesis of hydrophobic molecules. The objective of this study was to design a modified amphiphilic double crossover DNA molecule that would insert into a water-chloroform interface, thus showing.Read More

G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are involved in cell communication processes and with mediating such senses as vision, smell, taste, and pain. They constitute a prominent superfamily of drug targets, but an atomic-level structure is available for only one GPCR, bovine rhodopsin, making it difficult to use structure-based methods to design receptor-specific drugs. We have developed the.Read More
